2004 saw our Borough celebrating 800 years of 'official recognition'. In 1204 the Bishop of Winchester, Bishop Godfrey de Lucy, granted to Winchester Cathedral "all profits which may reasonably be derived form the Vill [town] newly built upon the Harbour in the Manor of Alwarestoke", and in so doing made the first formal acknowledgement of Gosport's existence.			My Gosport			A whole number of events are being planned throughout 2017 so that the people of Gosport can have fun and be proud of their town, its history, and their place in it. So you don't miss any that you might like to participate in, we shall be adding them to our calendar of events. As events are developed throughout the year they will be listed on www.gosport.gov.uk.

Gosport Festival 2004

This years Gosport Festival at the Falklands Gardens site at the ferry had good local support over the two days it was held. Headliners The Rubettes and George McRae gave a good account of themselves and entertained the crowds who came to enjoy the sun and sounds of the Gosport Festival.

Local groups and acts were on show during both days and the weather helped to boost numbers of people who did not stay in to watch the football.

Dead Fin Whale being brought ashore at Lee on the Solent 2/8/04

The fin whale that was seen over the weekend floating dead in the Solent, was finally brought to shore at the HMS Daedelas slipway at Lee on the Solent to be cut up and taken away.

April 15th and Gosport's Mayor opened the new HQ of the Gosport Model Yacht Club, which uses the bottom half of the new building, with Gosport's first all non smoking restaurant "Compass Point" above.
